About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced health and safety advisor to support, advise and deliver excellent services across the Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture Directorate.

The role is based within the Strategic Risk Management team, which supports the work of children's services, schools, libraries, adult education and community learning. Our Children's Services are on a rapid change journey, with new management and innovative approaches in improving outcomes for children.
Reporting to the Strategic Risk Management Service Manager, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring health and safety across the directorate, undertaking audits, inspections and projects, as well as managing other team members.
Working with managers and teams across the council, head teachers and governors, you will provide practical advice and outcome focused solutions. An excellent communicator, with the ability to adopt a coaching style will be key to the role.
Initially, one of your key goals will be managing our traded offer to schools, developing and maintaining our school and directorate health and safety web pages. Reviewing policy and guidance documents and building a resources library.
So, as well as drawing upon your health and safety experience, you will need to demonstrate sound project management skills for this varied, exciting and stretching role.
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
• You hold a NEBOSH diploma (or equivalent) or are working towards it
• Membership of an appropriate professional body such as IOSH
• Experience in carrying out audits and inspections
• An ability to communicate effectively, influencing both internal and external partners
• Excellent IT skills with the ability to use Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong project management or line management experience
