Epping Forest is the largest public open space in the London area and covers 2,400 hectares stretching 12 miles from Forest Gate in East London to just north of Epping in Essex. Two thirds of the Forest is designated a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), and as well as ancient forest and wood pasture we have 60 football pitches, a golf course and associated buildings and catering facilities.

We are now recruiting for a key post, providing dedicated Health and Safety and Asset Management services to the Epping Forest team, who regularly carry out operations involving working from height, heavy machinery and chainsaws in a public space and by the roadside, as well as working with the public, enforcing byelaws and normal office duties. With approximately 80 staff and over 100 buildings plus vehicles and operational machinery, contractors, volunteers and service partners this can be a demanding but interesting and rewarding role.

We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic and motivated candidate, with experience of managing Health & Safety in a similar environment, developing and embedding best practice procedures and associated documentation. Through your team you will also manage mechanical and building maintenance activities, risk assessments, inspections, permits, controls and other checks. Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety law and its practical application; mechanical and buildings know-how combined with effective communication with site teams and contractors is critical to the success of this role.

This is a full-time appointment. Participation in the Epping Forest duty call-out rota is required and for this reason this is a residential role. Necessary skills and experience are detailed in the attached Person Specification – if you wish to discuss this further then please contact Jo Hurst on 020 8532 5317.

Although based at The Warren office, travel around the Forest and to other City of London open spaces and offices will be necessary.

The closing date for this position is Monday 31st  July 2017 at 12 noon.
