Health & Safety Officer

Start date: ASAP

Post type:  Full time, permanent

Hours:  40hrs per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm, 52 weeks per year

Pay & holiday: £28,000 per annum, plus 28 days holiday allowance per year, plus bank holidays


Lord Wandsworth College seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to provide Health and Safety advice and guidance across the College, ensuring that employers and workers comply with H&S legislation and that H&S policies and practices are adopted and adhered to.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the “Competent Person” as required under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
  • Ensure that Lord Wandsworth College complies with the H&S at Work Act 1974 and all regulations pertaining to it
  • Ensure compliance with The College’s H&S Policy, Health, Safety & Welfare Legislation, Environmental and other regulations, taking appropriate measures where necessary
  • Assess and anticipate likely hazards and devise appropriate solutions to minimise risks, interpreting policy and practice as appropriate
  • Oversee the College’s near miss and accident reporting systems and carry out and record accident and near miss investigations where appropriate
  • Promote a robust H&S environment and culture within the College

The successful candidate will have:

  • A current recognised National Qualification in H&S, i.e. IOSH/NEBOSH certificate or equivalent
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations relevant to the academic facilities and building environment (desirable)
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
