 The Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator of the Preston site reports to the Operations Manager and has responsibility for:

• Overall compliance of all Environment, Health and Safety requirements on a statutory, legal and organization basis.

• Lead and direct activities to maintain safe working practices.

• Champion safe working practices across the site supporting the development of teams to ensure a good understanding of health and safety matters.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management

• Carry out risk assessments and give consideration to how risks can be minimised, make recommendations and ensure implementation of changes are agreed by the Operations Manager

• Assist with the prevention of accidents by raising safety awareness on all sites

• Complete accident/incident reporting and investigations and report findings

• Complete quarterly compliance audits, monthly incident statistic reports and any other required documented records and report findings

• Organise onsite inductions

• Maintain training matrix and records

• Complete minutes of Health and Safety meetings, ensure action plans are made, including timely completion of action plans

• Share best practice and drive for continuous improvements

• Work with and support the operational teams in their work environment; by promoting and ensuring safe working practices and safe performance standards are met

• Challenge, mentor and coach staff in H&S practices at all levels

• Ensure understanding and adherence to personal responsibilities with regard to Safety & Environmental Legislation and guidance, company H&S policies, site safety rules, and procedures at all times

• Collate Health and Safety data & Co-ordinate RAMS registers and approvals

• Conduct regular site inspections, ensuring policies and procedures are being correctly implemented

• Active participation in continuous improvement and other lean manufacturing initiatives

• To take responsibility for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business

• To assist in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members

• To exercise autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance

 

Required Skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

• > 7 years practical work experience in manufacturing chemical industry

• Knowledge in project management

• Ability to troubleshoot, adapt to a changing environment and deliver under pressure

• Good technical understanding of production processes used in the facility

• Good communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels in the company

• Good computer skills on standard software (MS-Office etc.)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Recognised qualification in Health & Safety Management

• Previous experience co-ordinating health, safety & environment within a similar environment required

• NEBOSH/National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety/IOSH

• Safety & Environmental legislation skills preferred

• MS Office experience – Excel, Word & Visio

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Problem solving skills
