Join our team of Great Westerners and you’ll help provide a great service to 100
million customers every year. As the proud custodian of one of the most prestigious
railway networks in the world, our services call at over 275 stations across the South
West of England.

Right now, we’re transforming the way people think about rail travel by setting a new
standard and creating a better experience for our customers. Together we’re
restoring the railway as a very special way to travel – relaxing, fast, efficient, friendly
and fun.

It’s one of the biggest programmes of change our industry has ever seen, and
involves new trains, remodelling of engineering depots, further electrification across
our network, and a wide range of smaller projects. All of which means safety plays a
huge role in our business.

As Safety Assurance Manager, you’ll join our busy Safety Team in a challenging but
rewarding environment where you’ll focus on reducing risk exposure, providing
strategic direction and guidance, and managing and maintaining our safety and
operational risk profile, register and audit programme.

Day to day, you’ll also advise on the practical application of safety legislation and
industry standards, and you’ll work closely with industry stakeholders, including
frontline colleagues, line and senior managers, trade union representatives,
regulatory inspectors, other operators, as well as relevant external industry and non-
industry bodies.

So, you’ll need to be a qualified and experience Lead Auditor with a NEBOSH
general certificate and a proven background within a risk management environment,
ideally within the rail industry. You’ll have the skills to translate complex legislation,
data, guidance and agreements into practical information, and the ability to analyse
data and produce accurate reports, often to tight deadlines.

And as a natural communicator, you’ll bring an enthusiastic and motivated approach
to the role, together with the ability to manage your own workload in a dynamic and
fast-changing environment.

In return, you’ll discover a great team focused workplace, and lots of opportunities
for training and development, all in a brilliant location with fantastic transport links.
Plus, you’ll enjoy a wide range of perks and benefits, from a defined benefit salary
pension scheme, to free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family,
company-sponsored health care plan, childcare vouchers, employee assistance
programme, and more.
