When you’re transporting Britain’s nuclear waste, effective HSEQ management is crucial.
Direct Rail Services is not just another rail operator. Serving Britain’s network of civil nuclear facilities as well as major logistics businesses and passenger operators, we deliver rail transport that is safe, secure and reliable. In fact, we’ve transported nuclear material over five million miles of track without a single significant incident. Operating nationwide, we employ more than 400 highly trained, dedicated people who enjoy some of the best benefits in the business. You can join them.
In this pivotal position, you will provide HSEQ advice and guidance for all our transportation activities, with responsibility for managing business risk as you promote a safety-conscious culture and continuously evolve our HSEQ management systems. From day to day, you will find yourself leading audits and inspections, managing support contracts for dangerous goods and radiological protection, and overseeing local safety consultation groups. Equally importantly, you will evaluate new railway legislation to maintain our statutory compliance, instigate investigations into incidents, assist in the selection of external suppliers and suspend ongoing projects where essential, whilst taking ownership of our HSEQ documentation and training – so you can anticipate exceptional visibility and autonomy.
An experienced HSEQ manager within rail or another highly regulated industry, you will be adept at conducting qualitative and quantitative risk assessments using the ALARP principle and skilled in drafting clear and unambiguous technical documentation. At the same time, you should hold a graduate HSE qualification, membership of IOSH or an equivalent body, and ISO 9001/14001 or OHSAS 18001 lead auditor status, giving you everything you need to hit the ground running. Finally, you should be familiar with the rail and nuclear industries, well versed in current UK safety legislation and capable of managing complex projects to assist us in avoiding enforcement action.
In return, we offer an unrivalled package of benefits including 34 days’ annual leave, a generous pension scheme, healthcare scheme, employee assistance programme and salary sacrifice scheme – plus career prospects that could take you anywhere.
Closing date: 4:00pm on Friday, 2nd November 2018.
