This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our team at Herefordshire Council. You will work alongside the Health, Safety & Resilience Manager to lead a comprehensive Health and Safety advisory service, providing practicable and business focussed health and safety advice to Council managers and leaders, across our corporate teams and Council maintained schools.
We are looking for an experienced health and safety practitioner with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of people. You should have excellent people skills, sound judgement and have the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously. You will also be able to deliver complex advice with credibility.
The role offers a mix of strategic and operational work, supporting managers of all levels throughout the Council and schools. You will be values orientated, solutions focused and have a collaborative ‘can do’ work style.
You should be able to facilitate the maintenance of an embedded safety management system, working in compliance with appropriate legislation and best practice. A key element of the role will be to collate, analyse and report data and statistics and act as primary advisor to Herefordshire Council.
You will hold a NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent and will have proven experience of working as a Health & Safety Advisor (or equivalent) along with experience of providing professional guidance at management and executive levels.
You should be an excellent communicator and have the confidence to deliver training, work independently and influence senior managers and school leaders.

Please note the role will require regular participation in the Council’s emergency planning duty officer on call rota overnight, at weekends and over bank holidays for which an allowance will be paid. The ability to travel between council sites on a daily basis is also essential.
