Head of Health & Safety
As the Head of Health & Safety you will be tasked with providing strategic leadership of the safety function to ensure that a positive safety culture is embedded in every function, department and faculty at City. This will be underlined by the development and management of a safety management system to effectively control risks across this risk diverse environment. Taking the lead on the compliance strategy and advising executive and operational managers on areas of success and weakness to ensure continuous improvements.
Other responsibilities will include auditing the safety performance of Schools and Professional Services against legislation and best practice, manage a team of 4 safety professionals to deliver effective safety services across the University, to develop a H&S training program and work with and advise the property and facilities team on all relative safety issues i.e. fire safety. Continuous communication from the Safety team is integral to the University’s overall performance so chairing of the Health & Safety committee, where you are able to offer advice on risk management and safety procedures will be key in your success. Attendance at other committees both internal and external, will be required to gather and present statistical reports.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in science or engineering, will hold the NEBOSH Diploma and will have Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent. Proven experience of leading a team in a senior health and safety role within a large multi-site educational, public or private sector organisation is essential.
