Scotland’s oldest University is seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to design, implement, communicate and evaluate its institutional approach to environmental, health and safety services.
As the Head of Environmental, Health and Safety Services (EHSS) you will lead a team of five staff with strategic responsibility for Health and Safety, Occupational Health, and Fire Safety, supporting staff and students across the whole of the University community. Reporting to the Vice-Principal (Governance), your primary objective will be to set the standards for a progressive service, and to deliver transformational change that embeds a culture of continuous improvement, meeting the needs of a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
Educated to degree level and possessing a relevant professional qualification, you will demonstrate significant management experience of leading equivalent services in large and complex organisations. Not necessarily from a higher education background, you will, however, have an understanding and empathy with the requirements of the University sector including student safety, laboratory research, chemical safety, and biosafety. You will also have extensive experience of working in complex customer-based organisations and be familiar with working with a broad range of stakeholders. A technical expert with strategic authority and interpersonal abilities you will be experienced in managing change and driving standards to the highest levels.
