At the Office for Students, we are committed to ensuring that every student in England enjoys the best possible higher education experience. Seeing to it that students from all backgrounds are receiving value-for-money and can access, succeed in and progress from higher education. The high standards we maintain as a regulatory body are reflected in the highest standards within our teams and our Facilities Management team are central to enabling this work by delivering safe and pleasant working environments for our people.
With an estate of three buildings, you will take the lead in overseeing our health and safety needs, making recommendations for improvement and seeing to it that our contractors are maintaining the expected standards. Managing a team of four, you will ensure service level agreements are being met, and that there is a comprehensive paper trail documenting compliance with national standards. You will therefore need to maintain an awareness of current legislation and produce meticulous records for everything that happens on-site. Supporting the work of the FM and Estates Manager, you will also be instrumental in leading and reviewing our Environmental Policy, and you will be responsible for managing Fire Warden and First Aid provisions. Crucially, you will inspire a culture of continuous improvement, so you will investigate incidents and ‘near misses’, and ensure that the relevant lessons are being learnt.
We are constantly seeking out ways in which we can improve how we work, and as such, there is great scope for you to shape and define this role as you see fit. With excellent people management and communication skills, you will be IOSH qualified and have exceptional health and safety and environmental management knowledge. Essentially, you will hold a good understanding of current legislation and you will not be phased by solving problems.
When you join the OfS team, you can expect a truly great work/life balance as well as a genuinely harmonious and collaborative environment, supported by a competitive benefits package. Furthermore, we will support your future aspirations too, with training and development opportunities. While we would prefer NEBOSH qualifications, we will support you in attaining these if you have not already done so. We will also fund your professional membership of IWFM. So, join us, and play an important part in keeping our valued colleagues safe – thereby enabling them to continue achieving great results for England’s student community.
