Position Purpose

  • Primarily this role provides support to the UK Environmental, Health and Safety programmes, initiatives and systems in place across Pfizer UK Worldwide Research & Development and Commercial businesses.
  • Responsible for the provision of a high standard of (primarily) technical EHS advice and assistance
  • Expertise in and a primary point-of-contact for a broad range of EHS disciplines
  • Subject Matter Expert for some specialisms for which they will be the primary point of contact
  • Able to work largely independent of direct day-to-day supervision
  • Sets and adheres to own timelines to ensure delivery of goals as agreed with the EHS Director
  • Demonstrates strategic and tactical awareness and so influences

Organizational Relationships:

  • Primary reporting line is to the UK EHS Director
  • Resources Managed (budget and FTEs):
    No direct budgetary responsibility
  • EHS Undergraduate (potential)

Primary Duties:

  • Provide advice, guidance and direction regarding the full range of EHS matters relevant to current business activities
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for agreed specialisms
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and review of the UK EHS Management system
  • Formulate and maintain appropriate written policies, procedures, rules, guidance and briefing notes
  • Lead high-level technical assessments, investigations, audits, inspections, surveys, hygiene monitoring, training etc. Arrange and coordinate additional specialist assistance where necessary.
  • Participate in active monitoring programmes, supporting where appropriate, the implementation of recommendations
  • Contribute to the formulation of annual EHS objectives and targets
  • Plan, develop and participate in EHS Audit and Inspection programmes
  • Identify, compile and deliver or oversee training and coaching programmes
  • Establish and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, company standards and best practice, communicating changes and developments and coordinating response to ensure compliance and continued professional competence
  • Ensure EHS equipment and services are correctly specified, validated and maintained
  • Establish and maintain communication links with local and global Pfizer staff and external parties
  • Manage tasks and projects to meet timelines, technical and where appropriate budget requirements
  • Consult and liaise with relevant parties regarding relevant EHS matters, representing the company at external meetings and seminars etc. as directed
  • Support Emergency Preparedness and Business Resilience programmes. Respond to emergencies in an effective, timely and competent manner
  • Act as incident severity assessor and investigation approver, to ensure appropriateness of investigation findings and corrective actions
  • Involvement in and where appropriate opportunity to lead EHS improvement initiatives and programmes
  • Support the UK EHS Governance structure, through attendance at EHS Committee meetings, communicating key information and documenting outcomes
  • Maintain the UK R&D EHS information SharePoint site and Email account
  • Contribute to data analysis and review, including preparation of performance reports to identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Compile promotional communications for topical items to be included in the monthly EHS communications programme
  • Maintain a close working relationship with EHS delegates and other key departmental contacts and partners
  • Support customer departments to communicate and consult efficiently on EHS matters
  • Maintain continuing professional competence
  • Provide occasional (anticipated to be 2 – 3 occasions per year) EHS support to Europe, Middle East, Africa and India regional sites and facilities

Training & Education

  • Minimum EHS qualification – NEBOSH General Certificate, CIEH Level 2 Award in Environmental Principles and Best Practice or equivalent

Prior Experience

  • Good communication, presentation and negotiation skills and able to demonstrate these to all levels in their customer lines.
  • Supervisory and influencing skills
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills
  • Sufficient technical awareness to be highly credible amongst their ‘technical customers’
  • High level of technical understanding of customers job functions
  • Demonstration of involvement in local or site EHS improvement initiatives
  • Previous experience in an EHS-related role preferred
