Given the highly diverse and complex nature of UCL’s science and other research activities, the effective management of health and safety is of paramount importance and a substantial challenge. UCL seeks to appoint a knowledgeable and motivated individual to the post of Deputy Head of Safety and Biological Safety Officer. Reporting to the Head of Safety you will be responsible for advice and executive action in respect of health and safety throughout the University. As UCL’s Biological Safety Officer you will be required to provide advice and expertise in the field of bio-safety and bio-security covering work with dangerous pathogens, toxins, and genetically modified organisms. The ideal candidate will work with the Head of Safety to engender a safety culture that is both pro-active in approach and collaborative in delivery to all members of the University’s community and will need to possess the leadership and influencing skills to bring about these improvements in a pragmatic way. You will be a Chartered Member of IOSH and have several years experience as a Biological Safety Officer in a medical/pharmaceutical/ university environment and be familiar with the challenges faced by scientific research-led institutions in this specialist advisory capacity.
