A new position has arisen within this oil & gas operator. Due to growth they now need to have technical safety engineering in house to support the current and future projects and operations. The purpose of the role is to provide an in house consultancy and to advise on the management of technical safety within the company.

The successful candidate will act as Technical Authority for the Management of Safety Critical Elements and performance standards. This role provides input to and in cases facilitates or chairs HAZID, HAZOP and SIL studies; providing specialist expertise to asset/project teams in relation to major accident hazards, QRA, safety critical elements and performance standards. Knowledge of safety cases will be required as the person will ensure that Safety Cases are developed and maintained to a consistently high standard and that they remain current and reflect good industry practice; and support/defend them to regulatory bodies.

Qualifications and experience required:

BSc in an engineering discipline
- MSc in Safety (considered a bonus)
Familiarity with hazard identification and risk assessment techniques
- HAZOP/HAZID arrangement
- QRA coordination
- ALARP demonstrations
- Ability to perform updates for operational safety cases and support/defend them to regulatory bodies
- Ability to plan and cost small to large project safety and environmental engineering scopes
- Proven experience in oil & gas industry
- Ability to manage technical meetings, liaise/feedback with other disciplines, project management, client and regulatory authorities, provide advice on various technical safety and environmental engineering subjects
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety engineering in the oil and gas industry
