An excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety professional with experience of managing H&S processes in a manufacturing, engineering or laboratory environment. You will be responsible for championing H&S in a successful high technology team of approx 200 people.

The Role
- Develop and maintain a health and safety system in line with Oxford Instruments plc policies, that complies with UK regulations (OHSAS18001) and that reflects best practice in the sector.
- Champion health and safety, continually auditing operations, to drive safe behaviour throughout the site and global support teams.
- Facilitate the ownership of safety by all employees at all times and in a consistent manner, and specifically ensure that Managers fully integrate H&S responsibility into their roles.
- Drive improvement to eliminate unacceptable risk and to achieve the required safety standards cost effectively.
- Action/follow up all near miss/accident reports and liaise directly with the HSE for all reportable incidents.
- Carry out safety awareness training for all staff to a high standard, and arrange for all safety related equipment to be regularly inspected.
- Manage the H&S spend to budget.
The successful candidate will have:
- Significant experience of managing health and safety processes preferably in a technical environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and directives.
- NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent. COSHH Certification
- The people skills to work effectively at all levels in the organisation. Strong coaching and presentation skills to support the training agenda.
- High level of energy, drive, assertiveness and persistence to motivate people to achieve health and safety objectives.
- Imaginative and realistic thinker. Able to foresee potential problems and a good understanding of the management of risk. Able to identify the trends and prioritise critical issues.
